The Friends of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge are thrilled to welcome back Bill Gette for another of his highly anticipated and informative lectures: Amazing Birds!.
Birds possess the greatest diversity in form and behavior of any group of terrestrial vertebrates. They are an endlessly exciting group of animals, constantly surprising us with their evolutionary adaptations. For instance:
Did you know that in the fall, Bar-tailed Godwits migrate over 8,000 miles nonstop?
Did you know that Oilbirds feed at night and use echolocation—just like a bat—to navigate and find food?
During this engaging PowerPoint presentation, Bill will showcase his beautiful photographs to illustrate the stunning diversity found in the bird world. The lecture will explore:
• Feeding Techniques & Food Storage: How birds have adapted to find and keep their meals.
• Mating & Nest Building: The complex systems and structures birds use to raise the next generation.
• Migration Feats: A look at the incredible journeys birds undertake twice a year.
• Unique Behaviors: Insights into tool use, brood parasitism, and plumage coloration.
